Top Tips for Accessorising!

1) WHY ACCESSORISE YOUR HOME?
Accessories add the finishing touch to any room. Well chosen and well displayed accessories can bring a decorating scheme to life, by adding colour, texture and interest. Accessories are often the final link in pulling a look together, so they are well worth taking the time to get right!

2) IDEAS FOR ACCESSORIES
If you're looking for ideas for accessories, then browsing the web or visiting home interior stores can often bring inspiration! Basic ideas include cushions, throws, candles, vases, flowers, figurines, and artwork.

If you're looking for something a bit different then search online shops for gorgeous trinkets and nik naks, or think about incorporating natural, unique items such as shells or pressed flowers, or personal collections, into your home.

3) THAT DESIGNER LOOK!
If you're after a stylish designer look to your room, then think carefully about how you display your accessories. An easy way to create a polished feel is to display items in sets of odd numbers, for example group three identical candles side by side on your mantlepiece. Bold vases with single stems set side by side also work well, and artwork should similarly be minimal but strong, or again displayed as sets.

4) AND RELAX!
If you're after a more relaxed feel to your room, then your accessories should be less stylised than for a designer look. Key points to follow include using mix and match cushions of differing sizes and patterns, big vases of fresh flowers, displaying lots of personal photos in a mixture of frames, and don't make displays too symmetrical or organised!

5) ACCESSORISING YOUR BATHROOM
If you're after a minimal designer look to your bathroom, then you probably won't want much more than a few select designer name toiletries and a couple of thick, luxury towels on display. Another tip is to buy liquid soap and decant it into a a chrome soap dispenser to keep the expensive feel!

If you prefer a more relaxed, indulgent bathroom then think scented candles, fresh flowers in a jug, bales of pretty towels, and have plenty of gorgeous scented soaps on display!

6) ACCESSORISING YOUR KITCHEN
With a minimal designer kitchen you'll be unlikely to want much on show, to avoid spoiling the clean lines and polished feel. To keep that designer feel through your accessories, try to make a statement with whatever you do display. For example, perhaps opt for a bold dinner set with simple, strong lines, use minimalist vases with singles stems to create a feature, or maybe retro style tea, coffee and sugar canisters.

On the other end of the scale, for a relaxed country style kitchen an absolute necessity is a large enamel jug filled with fresh flowers! Other ideal accessories include a pastel coloured or floral dinner set, a decorative memo board, a quaint wall clock, and floral, gingham or dotty blinds/curtains and teatowels.

7) ACCESSORISING YOUR BEDROOM
To give your bedroom a serene, calm but luxurious feel, where you can just unwind and relax, think carefully about your bedding, cushions and throws. Mix pale colours and soft textures such as cashmere and silk to create a sense of luxury. Scented candles, pretty storage boxes to hide clutter and heart shaped trinkets are other sweet ideas for your bedroom!

8) ACCESSORISING CHILDREN'S BEDROOMS
As children already tend to have a lot of belongings in their bedrooms, a good idea is to keep accessories to a minimum. Fun or sweet bedding, matching curtains, a cool or pretty lightshade. and a simple cushion or two, maybe heart shaped. for a girl and some colourful or pretty artwork is usually all that is needed to give a finshed and cohesive feel to a child's bedroom.

9) FLOWER POWER!
A great way of bringing any room in your home to life is to use flowers! Flowers add colour, contrast, texture and interest and are a fantastic finishing touch. Although fresh flowers are best, it is not always practical (or affordable!) to have these in your home all the time, so do consider faux flowers. as you can get some very realistic and pretty ranges nowadays.

10) THAT PERSONAL TOUCH!
Accessories are another area where you may want to exercise your creativity and come up with some unique, personal touches for your home! For example, you can easily create your own bespoke artwork using ready stretched and primed canvas blocks or, if you are handy with a needle and thread, think about making your own cushions, perhaps with vintage fabric. Creating some of your own accessories is not only extremely satisfying, but also gives that personal touch to your decorating schemes.
